>>40417039It's true Sakurai's work ethic is unhealthy, but to call it shit, I think is wrong. The fact is, the man has a lot of pride and passion in his work. If you truly have pride in something, you want it to be seen as the best. You want people to look at it with admiration and adoration, and you'll put in the effort to make it that way.
But that's also not always enough. That's where passion comes in. Sakurai clearly has a passion for what he does, otherwise he would not be spending so many hours playtesting himself with 2 controllers at the same time, or pushing himself to the point of being hospitalized. That is a man who made their passion their niche in life and to call that "shit", just because it doesn't sound your work ethic I think shows what kind of person you are and the reason you're not as successful as someone like he is.
Mind you, I don't think it's healthy and I do think he needs to tone it down, especially as he's getting older. And it's not as if it's impossible to make it in life without those things - Look at Masuda. The man clearly has neither pride nor passion in what he does. Which I think is a shame, since I do believe one upon a time, when he was mostly a composer he likely did have similar feelings. But not anymore, it's evident by the things he has been saying in interviews, "Making a game is hard", for example, that he has neither pride nor passion for and in his work. Very sad.
