If the famous Let's Go transfer question wasn't asked, when do you think GF would have revealed that not all pokemon would be in Galar? Would they have kept it secret until release?

Yup. It actually helps that they said so. If something like that wasn't admitted by them and we discovered it through datamining, it would've been the greatest PR disaster.

They probably should have. People wouldn't be able to cancel preorders and more people would have bought the game before knowing as well, not to mention all the digital download folks would be shit out of luck. There would have been a bigger outrage, but they'd have already stolen our money at that point.

Or they could just, y'know, not remove half the dex. Then we wouldn't have this issue.

Not going to lie though. In an alternate reality where they said nothing about the national dex.. it would be super interesting just how angry everyone would be at gamefreak. I feel they would have to patch it in at that point later on cause that would be a nightmare of a pr move.

No, this was very much a "say publicly in-person at earliest opportunity" type of announcement. If they ran a video, the seethe would have been ten times as much as it was, because people would percieve GF to not give a fuck about the players enough to say it in-person somewhere. Fact is Masuda didn't want this, can see it written on his face before even starting. But Masuda is one voice among many and ultimately not even one of the OG founders of Game Freak so automatically holds less weight in his words compared to Tagiri or Sugimori.

The whole thing was so weird in retrospect. They had to have known everyone was going to be pissed. So why not show off some amazing new animations or features to show where the extra dev time and switch hardware went into? Was the wild area their ace in the hole? The whole thing was meh and of course looks 2 generations old. I just don't get it. Pic somewhat related.
