They are completely unnecessary games and most of the good content in them could easily have been added as a, you know, UPDATE to sun and moon, but gamefreak is a load of greedy bastards so they copy-pasted the original sun and moon, added a few new pokemon and a new coat of paint and called them sequels and sold them at full price.

They also dont fix the CUTSCENE problems that SM had.

the rainbow rocket mission was fucking awesome tho

i hate how much of a scam third versions or complete editions are but usum takes it to a whole new level. almost nothing is different and what little they added fucking sucks for everyone but shiny hunters (not that most of the wormhole mons have shinies worth getting)

Umm, this isn't new? Emerald/Platinum/BW2, none of these games made any huge changes, they felt more like the base games with little expansions tacked on.

And to conclude, unlike Emerald and Platinum which any sane person would recommend over the original first versions, I'm not honestly sure if I can really recommend USUM over SM because while it does technically have more content, the good is so small, and the bad is so large, it's kinda hard.

And the worse part about USUM is that this shitty game is the last game where every Pokemon introduced at that point is able to be used

They're incredibly mediocre by third(/fourth)-version standards. They don't add any significant content until the endgame, and even then it's just a big old bucket of hallways, rainbow rocket dogshit, and one (1) good fight with Ultra Necrozma.
At their core they're still Sun and Moon. They're slightly better, but a slightly less smelly piece of shit with a flower on it is still a piece of shit.

Emerald and Platinum were pretty big expansions along with a change to the story that USUM pretends is unique to it (and even then the story changes in USUM make the already predictable story in SM even more bland).
BW2 are objectively different games that just take place in the same region. Non-Unova pokemon before the endgame, Different order, different story, etc. They don't add a battle frontier so that takes some points off, but it makes up for it in being a completely different playthrough.

It would have been very based if the new features were added on a $15 DLC or something (Mantine Surf, Photo Boot, Rainbow Rocket, Ultra Space); they added the new trainers to the League and the Battle Tree; they made the new Pokemon availiable around the region (with Island Scan Pokemon being random or something like that; and the new Pokemon being in either Ultra Space or a QR Code), and made the Battle Agency work like an actual Battle Factory.

Worse story, terrible post game, ultra recon squad was just slapped in because they had to justify necrozma, no fleshing out of one of the best end stage bosses to come from pokemon (lusamine)
