Arcanine. I love big fluffy dogs and as a kid I thought it would be the coolest shit traveling around the world riding on an Arcanine. Even though I got my wish with LGPE I didn't get those games because I just wasn't feeling the Go nature of the games. I still give Masuda a salute for atleast doing it even though the games weren't for me.

I’ve always loved monsters and animals as a small child. The first Pokémon I ever seen was caterpie when it aired on TV in North America.

At one point a kid brought his game boy to school and in the museum part of red/blue it shows aerodactyls skeleton. It blew my mind there were actual “dinosaur” Pokémon and I haven’t looked back since. I’ve got other favourites now including lairon, carracosta, rhydon, excadrill and slowking, but since then I’ve always waited for the next fossil Pokémon to be revealed.

I also have a special memory of my mom buying me a bootleg aerodactyl figure from a flea market. I lost him and don’t have any aero merch now, but it was still a very special moment

At first, I hated it for being a freaking flying sauce, but I also have played the TCG for around 20 years now. It happens that, during the DP era, Zone had 4 different prints to choose from, not counting the promos. And I built a deck around them. It did REALLY well. That's when I grew fond of the guy.

Flygon will always be a favourite of mine.

In SM he got me out of so many tricky situations because he had decent speed and a lot of his turns were two-phase or allowed me to setup for a different mon.

And when me and a friend started getting into battling Flygon helped me win a lot battles. Most memorable being down to the last two pokemon, friend had type advantage and he got me down to crit health in one hit. I'd used dig so Flygon went underground for the next turn. My friend got so excited he used earthquake to murder my ass, but Flygon's levitate ability prevented any damage being inflicted, so he wasn't harmed. Got in the with the second phase of dig and won the battle.Still gives my friend nightmares.

Some time ago I realized that after all these years playing Pokémon I've never had a favorite mon but Lucario was the closest thing of having one. Then after completing PMD: Explorers of Sky I wanted to play it again from the beginning but I disliked the idea of playing as Riolu again so I just answered the questions and decided to play with the Pokémon that the game gave me, that was Shinx. I quickly felt in love with Shinx because it was the BEST Starter Pokémon in the game with both Intimidate and Rivarly activated, it gets Spark very early, and with Discharge you have nothing to fear to Monster Houses, he also comes with Ice Fang.

I also like to use Luxray in the lower levels of Battle Tower/Subway/Maison/Tree.

Seeing it kick Pikachu's ass in the Lt. Surge episode was great, even if it eventually lost.
I'd always have one my team since Red ever gen, with the only exception being Gen 5.
I also really like its design.
It's like Pikachu but bigger, darker, cooler, but still cute.
And while Alolan Raichu is an adorable little potato OG Raichu's sharper features appeal to me more.

Same, kind of. I don't know if I'd consider Arcanine my all-time favourite anymore because there are so many Pokemon I can't decide on, but it was my #1 when I was a kid. It's a massive, fire-breathing, legendary dog, so there's a lot to love. I remember catching a Growlithe in Crystal and not knowing it evolved by Fire Stone. That file has long since corrupted but I remember keeping that Growlithe in my party anyway, hoping that the next level would evolve it.

I'm pretty sure it's Drampa now. Strange but lovable design, mix of a Chinese dragon, a fluffy dog, and a wise old man. I've often gravitated towards those old mentor types in media, Uncle Iroh (My first and main Drampa named after him) being one of my favorite characters of all time. The lore behind it is adorable yet scary and it kinda fits that theme of Alola having strange, unassuming yet lethal mons just roaming about. It's colors are comfy and it's extremely fun to use in game & online. I'm legit sad that I can't just fly around on one all day and pick berries, but that's life. At least he exists in the medium he does. Just a bro in every way. Who wouldn't want a fluffy dragon dog protector.

I've always liked Pokemon that seem "comfy" to be around. Just imagine this sleeping next to you while you're sitting near a small campfire while it's raining outside the cave you have sought temporary shelter in.
In this sense, >>40429775 and >>40424518 are based.

Another more Pokémon-specific reason is that I like "non-obvious dragon types". Altaria references the "birds are dinosaurs" trope a bit more subtly than Archeops (I like Archeops too though).

My first Pokémon game was actually explorers of time and I grew up watching the gen 4 anime.
I had this book with all the sinnoh Pokémon in it and always liked Mismagius. One morning I saw the mismagius episode before school and it solidified it as my favourite Pokémon.

I just really fucking like the colour purple.

When I was a kid my mom gave me a Raichu Plushie. At first I wasn't a fan of it cuz Raichu was a dick in the show. But then I started thinking that Raichu is really cute. I really liked it's scythe-like tail and eventually it became my favorite. Now I obligatory train up one Raichu in every game (I name it Sparky like Richie's Pikachu from the anime). Looking back on it, I'd say only the one I had in Heartgold was particularly good, but it was also a glass cannon.
