honest question, why do people bother strategizing for in-game pokemon teams? the games require zero strategy and can be steamrolled regardless. I'm not trying to posture or be a killjoy or anything, it's just an alien concept to me. am I just autistic?

OP may be talking a fun competitive team, not in-game.
But to answer you, it's fun to have a non-overlapping diverse team. And when you're doing a theme team, e.g. mono-Normal, you don't want too much of an overlap of roles because it takes the fun away if all your Pokemon are just physical attackers clicking Return.

If you don't know you can get one from a fisherman on rout 42, just beat him, register his number, go home and keep changing daylight savings time since it forces phone calls. He will say he has something for you, battle him and he gives you a water stone. If you already knew that though I might've just wasted my time

No problem, I've always hated how Gamefreak made getting the elemental stones such a chore in GSC and I usually avoid using Stone Pokemon in them, but I can't deny two of my favorites forever.

You can get teddiursa in dark cave befire falkner between 8 am and 10 am game time. He's a bitch to catch since he can flee. Phanphy can be found in the morning too before falkner, but he doesn't learn any valuable moves.

Back in Stadium 2 Snore was able to benefit from his hulking attack stat too. After the split it ruined Snore for a lot of physical attackers.
I could see a move like "Sleep Walk" or something being the equivalent physical move to snore.
