I'm glad. Raichu's my favorite pokemon. As long as Pikachu's allowed to evolve, I never have to worry about Raichu ever being cut from future games since Pikachu will always be included. I like to think that Pikachu being popular also helps keep the rest of its family line popular as well which means they get merch and stuff like that.

He's a pretty good mascot. I think Pikachu's genuinely one of the most well-designed Pokemon, since it conveys a simple idea (electric mouse), but it also leaves room open for many interpretations (Big club-like tail, unique ears, cockatiel cheeks that store power, ball-like body, etc)

Honestly, i don't see a lot of other kanto-mons being viable as the mascot, i think maybe the only other option would be clefairy, and actually the metronome gimmick would be pretty funny if done right in the anime. But also Clefairy lacks that little extra bit of personality that pikachu has, and is a little bit too cutesy.

Eevee works much better desu, it's gimmick (evolving) is a pretty important part of the games.
And of course, by default that it has so many options in evolving, collecting them all is also another important part of games.

Pikachu is legitimately the best mascot, for a monster catching game, imaginable. Cute, but not girly and believably powerful. Also easily recognizable and iconic. It's the one shilled mon that will always make sense.

Not really. It's a very robust design. Girls can like it because it's cute and boys can like it because it's cool. But it's also simple and effective - even people who have never played Pokemon can understand what it's about just through Pikachu. You can obviously tell it's an elemental animal that could serve a role as a pet, utility, or fighter.

Eevee, Sandshrew, Meowth, Charizard, Mewtwo, Mee, Jigglypuff, many of these options have some of the mascot qualities of Pikachu, but only Pikachu has all of them.

Realistically I can't see many being a suitable substitute for Pikachu. Maybe Charmander, Bulbasaur, Ponyta, or Psyduck.

No, it's quite versitile, but it was the Anime that set this in motion, Ash may have had a Clefairy/Clefable as the manga had Red/Blue/Green chose one of the three starters.

Pikachu is a good choice for a macot if you think about it
