You can dislike Kanto pandering and still like the game, I guarantee you the amount of people who were so bothered by the Kanto Giga forms that they're no longer buying the game is minuscule. They didn't lose any hype, this is one of those situations where bad news is still good news. People making memes and complaining about Pokemon is still people talking about Pokemon. If they weren't hyped they wouldn't care.

Gigantomax Charizard would have been accepted if that evo line didn't get two megas. They can salvage Gigantomax Charizard by having Ash's Charizard evolve into that form. But it still sold very well for a Switch game. One million units in 3 weeks with it being one of the only six games in Japan to sell 1 million period. Fifth best selling Switch game over all in Japan according to Famitsu and it was the king of sales charts until Smash was released beating multiple new games. And that's all physical we don't have digital data and the Switch is making a good portion of it's software sales digitally.

Also as far as Origins goes it was simulcasted I Japan on Niconico alongside it's tv airing and that was where a bulk of it's views were. And it's tv ratings were pretty good for it's time slot and anime in general.

Stop trying to paint successful products as failures just because it fits your delusional narrative dream vision of Japan.

Again, this is one of those things that just doesn't really matter that much. It'll turn some people off for sure, but most people either didn't care to begin with or have gotten over it. They were smart to announce this as early as they did. I don't think SwSh is gonna break any series records but it'll outsell LGPE for sure. It's simple math, more people own a Switch than they did a year ago.

Origins was a one off special that promoted the games and toys of the entire brand. It doesn't need it's own dedicated merchandise to be successful and it was followed up with a season 2 of sorts in Generations so clearly it did what they wanted. Those ratings on ANN are pretty good for a show like it too.

Masters isn't an anime short it's a long form mobile game. You're comparing apples and oranges here. The point of Origins was to get people excited for XY and mega evolution. The Pokemon featured in it all had general merchandise at stores across Japan that only sold Pokemon merchandise too. It never needed dedicated merchandise nor was it made to sell dedicated merchandise.

Also on top of this since you're a tard Pokemon as a brand is in a different place compared to six years ago. Following gen 7 the trainers are finally getting merchandise and promotional material. In the past such things were very rare past a small keychain here or there so a game like Masters getting merchandise in an era where trainers are getting full statues and figures makes more sense then Red or Blue getting them during Origins airtime.

Literally the story of every spinoff ever with very few exceptions. Doesn’t equate to failure in the slightest otherwise DS9 or even godawful Voyager would be deemed failures as their ratings were lower then TNG. They weren’t by any stretch. Cope harder.

It is obvious why that is the case, it is the only generation without a second improved version like
Yellow Gen 1
Crystal Gen 2
Emerald Gen 3
Platinum Gen 4
BW2 Gen 5
USUM Gen 7

It also doesn't help that they purposely lowered the quality of ORAS to compete with the attention from other video games and the fact that they scrapped the entire alien plot in XY.

Except that anime isn't aimed at the same audience. Origins was targeted at the people who stopped playing and the older otaku. It was made to attract them to the new games. And again at the time the brand wasn't pushing trainers so Origins didn't need dedicated merchandise because if you watched it and said "Wow Gengar is cool" it doesn't matter what name is slapped on the plush or toy or whatever because when you go to a Pokemon Center you just want Gengar. In general even the anime mostly markets the general brand and not a specific line, though it does have specific merchandise it also promotes generic all brand items most of the time. But the anime is also a long form thing so it needs specific merchandise. Mostly candy toys and smaller things. Origins was promoting the brand as a whole and the brand as a whole is full of gen 1 merch in Japan.

Also success is not decided by merchandise alone anyway. It's ratings were good, it's online numbers were good, and it was well received by the Japanese fanbase. XY also sold pretty well in Japan. Nor does every successful thing have a merchandising line.

You fuckers look at this stuff and twist it to fit your view and what you want to think and it's so pathetic. Origins was a success. LGPE was a success. All those lines of merch Japan does that are filled to the brim with gen 1 Pokemon are a success.
