>>40452018Not entirely wrong, but you'd have to split a single hair a dozen times over to be seen as "correct".
If you're familiar with post-1700s Hawaiian history, which, admittedly, is an *incredibly* niche interest, you'd probably know that the 1800s Hawaiian economy beyond the subsistence level would not have survived without the insanely large and wealthy plantations and factories owned by American businessmen like the Baldwin family. This state of affairs persisted long after the annexation coup by these same white businessmen, as evidenced by most of the residue from Lanai's pineapple operations having yet to be cleaned up despite Larry Ellison's best efforts.
The whole dynamic of Lusamine and her family unconsciously (or purposefully) mirrors the long, drawn out timeline of how Caucasians integrated into wider Hawaiian society. It took a shitload of time and isn't exactly complete. The Aether Foundation is quite possibly something of a stand-in for Dole and other similar entities that basically uprooted traditional Hawaiian lifestyles and almost entirely replaced them with totally alien cultures from around the globe (compare Ultra Space and how many different planets you can sort of visit with how many successive waves of immigration came to Hawaii from Asia and the South Pacific).
Lillie is the child of one of these "haole" and a 2nd generation Alolan who's far more ingrained into the culture and traditions than either of her parents. This kind of makes her a Nisei Japanese but nobody is really thinking of her as Asian are they?
Anything else is firmly in the territory of fanfiction and pointless analytical writing.
