The 3DS was even more popular, and the DS was even more popular than that. Despite that, the 3DS games only managed ~16m, and the DS games managed ~17 and ~15m.

Actually the last two times anything similar to the current controversy happened the games sold significantly less than normal, and the shitstorm has never been as bad as it is right now.

As of April LGPE sold 10M. It's probably not gonna go higher than 12M.
That's not anywhere close to ORAS at 14M, if we're going to compare remakes. I guarantee you they projected it to sell more than 10M, so I really don't think LGPE did as well as they expected it to.

Every iteration of a Nintendo franchise on Switch has broken records. Pokemon has failed to that thus far. Switch games sell like fucking crazy. Sun and Moon and X and Y both sold 16M. If SwSh does not hit that 16M benchmark, it's going to be under their expectations.

Yes because most of those series never sold as well as Pokemon and most of those series that broke records didn't pass 15 mil either. That 10 mil in two goddamn months was huge. It took BOTW two years to reach those numbers on the Switch. You fags keep trying to compare it to other Pokemon games on systems with higher sales numbers but LGPE selling 11-12 million is really goddamn good.

Again stop looking at Pokemon and look at the goddamn fucking console. The only games that have sold better than it are games that already outsell it like Mario Kart and Smash, and games that have been out longer. And the divide between it and games under it is significantly large.

And I'm saying all of the games in their respective franchise have done the BEST on Switch. Smash Ultimate, BotW, Mario Kart, and Mario Odyssey have become some of the best (if not the best) sellers in their respective franchise.

Meanwhile LGPE is on the lower end of its respective franchise, meaning out of all of the mainline Nintendo series on Switch, it's lagging in comparison to Pokemon's historical sales. It didn't get the Switch "bonus" that every other title seems to be getting. That's not a good sign.

LGPE isn't remotely the same as a brand new generation or a ORAS/HGSS style remake though. It's too soon to assume anything negative out of it's smaller sales.

BOTW and Odyssey broke records, not Link's Awakening and NSMBU.

But it's factual that LGPE is a brand new style of release we haven't really seen done before. Console-priced game with formular based on the cellphone games and a primitive remake of the original GB game? There's too many variables to count it's number as a floor or as a ceiling for SwoShi.

Just compare any other 3DS game and its Wii U / switch sequel counterpart to see what a proper jump from handheld to console should look like

The surge in popularity of the franchise thanks to GO actually boosted the sales (it did much better than XY during holidays). However it legs got cut by USUM, and GO didn't bring a lot of newcomers to the mainline game. Most people introduced to the Pokemon franchise thanks to GO are perfectly fine with their mobile game. Only a very small fraction of the people who grew up with pokemon but stopped after gen 1/2 and then relapsed thanks to GO were interested in buying a 3DS to play the mainline games again.
