SM wasn't an ending in that sense, nor was it meant to be. They literally do not care about maintaining chronological consistency with earlier seasons because they bank on the fact that the target audience will grow out of the show and stop giving a shit, that's why every gen is basically a soft reboot for Ash. This new season, while shifting gears a tiny bit away from the current formula, is no different.

No its not, Ash being in the next season ties it into the same continuity. If it was a new continuity keeping Ash would literally make no sense as its irreparably mutilate the flow of new narrative by confusing the audience with tie ins to the original continuity so I call bullshit.
