Gens 1, 4, and 5 are pretty good, though gen 5 takes too much from Noivern, and gen 1 doesn't look quite Akira Toriyama enough.
Gen 2 had bigger pokemon, look at Tyranitar, ursaring, ect. Taking from those designs to express this one would have been better.
Gen 1, with rounded features and shorter limbs would have been more accurate.
The smooth body of gen 3 is right, but otherwise, gen 3 is probably the most diverse from a design standpoint.
Gen 6 is fucked. Gen 6 pokemon are gen 2 pokemon stretched into either lolipops or hourglasses, with lankier limbs, and big dumb eyes and/or facial features
Gen 7 is kneejerk bait from someone with a specific problem with 2 or three pokemon who didn't look at the designs in the slightest.
Gen 7 pokemon are overwhelmingly "plumped out" gen 6 pokemon, with thicker limb proportions, that paradoxically give off "lanky, but also chubby" vibes.
The more expressive eyes are right, though.
5, 6, and 7 all also have the problem where you can't tell what animal it is. Most pokemon from those gens are very blatenty a particular animal.
These kinds did exist in earlier gens, but were much less common.
