For this gen, we know of about 30 give or take + the handful of galarian forms of old Pokemon if you count those.

Now, it is possible that we could see the lowest count of new Pokemon yet. I mean X&Y did it and now people seem pretty accepting of that. On the lower-end we could get 50-60. On the higher end I doubt it will go out of the 70s, based on the volume of what we've seen so far.

People saying "b-but IGN and some youtubers said they saw lots of new pokemon they cant talk about!" And we shouldn't put it past them to not be able to discern new pokemon from any pokemon that's not Kanto, let's be real here. So yeah. We could be dealing with a pretty low number of new pokemon. But hey you have Gigantamax to make up for that :)

You assume that we are going to get a regional bug, yet Butterfree is the one seen hanging around the first area with Wooloo. Yamper is the poochyena this time around, and if Affleck is anything to go by, then Galarian Meowth is the Purrloin. That's still not adding a whole lot to the grand total here. That's like 40-50 range, and that's factoring in Galarian forms. Go on Serebii and count them yourself if you don't believe me.

The journalists who previewed the game literally said there were a bunch of unannounced pokemon in the first 90 minutes of the game alone. Are you really gonna put your faith in journalists? Let's put this in perspective with example we all know and love, Andre the big brains of Gamexplain is a genwunner and stopped playing the series after the first games. He doesn't know shit about any of the new pokemon. Most people don't -- not even most game journalists who can barely edge their way through a tutorial these days. "A bunch of new pokemon" could be as much as 5 knowing the incompetency of modern day "game journalism".

Add the ~20 to the 30 we know already. That's 50. That would still be the lowest count already. I'm anything but a zoomer. I'm just saying how are people going to react if we DO end up with a much lower count padded out with a few galarian forms but mostly new Gigantamax shit?

Like I just want to know how you and many other people who refuse to even acknowledge this possibility, how you all would react to a count of 50 new + say, 10 galarian forms.

It isn't that unlikely they're also laying low and only revealing the barest legally possible minimum, all their channels were being flooded with people just going apeshit at them with their reveals
On top of that, September and October aren't their best times for promotion this year
Digimon is offering 2 games for 50 bucks with plenty of improvements over their PS4 version (People aren't going to make the distinction that the PS4 japanese release is already like that)
Dragon Quest XI released a super improved version of what is universally agreed to be a pretty damn good game
Both are turn based RPGs that hardcore fans and angry people would spam every one of their channels with, making Pokemon look worse in comparison in both quality (DQXI) and Price (Digimon)
Yes, Pokemon is a way bigger franchise and has realistically nothing to fear, but a media black eye when Holidays are approaching is no laughing matter, especially when their other big hitter got delayed (Animal Ctossing)
While Nintendo makes money from Pokemon they also are releasing their own in-house games during these 2 periods (Link's Awakening and Luigi's Mansion 3) that also paint Sword and Shield in a bad light technologically speaking and at the end of the day, Nintendo cares more for their in-house projects than even Pokemon (That's TPCI's job)

They can't redact something that they won't even allow people to talk about, that being the new pokemon seen. It's hearsay. Of course there are a few we haven't seen, but I have a hard time believing anyone who says these are the "most ambitious pokemon games to date!" just by playing the first 90 minutes of the game, in which we know exactly what they did in that 90 minutes which is the same shit you do every game i.e. get your first pokemon and fight your rival in a battle system that has seen literally no innovation outside of the gimmick known as Gigantamax.

Galar has both a Mega Evolution equivalent (Gigantamaxing) and regional variants, so if we assume the total number of those combined will be roughly the same as the total number of XY Mega Evolutions and Alolan forms averaged (23) then it's probably safe to say the number of actual brand new Pokémon will be around 77, give or take.

I'm expecting this scenario, but if it turns out they're truly avoiding spoiling everything and there's at least 80 pokémon I'm more than happy about this. SM was disappointing with its reveals since once you got to play the game there was almost nothing new to know.

There will be at least 100 designs in Galar. The problem is that Galar variants and Gigantamax variants will both count towards that 100 in GameFreak's eyes, so expect to see at least 30 of those 100 be past Pokemon or tacked on BIG forms with 70 or less actually new Pokemon yet again.

Given that it seems unlikely to hear any more major news, and the leaking probably wont happen until a few days prior I guess it comes down to this. We either hope that Game Freak has something wonderful planned, and the games end up being enjoyable for all, or We accept that Game Freak will do the absolute bare minimum and still make bank because Pokemon as a IP will sell itself.

In my ideal situation, this will be the greatest game yet. The game has depth and character in a way where you can overlook their adequate graphics. There will be 115+ New Pokemon designed well or more than single stage (Including 2 new Eevee evolutions), 20 or so Galar forms that aren't just Kanto rehashing, and Gigantamax being more than just a simple gimmick. This is unlikely, but its what I'd like to see happen.

Unfortunately we wont know what will be, until it leaks or people get their copy.

People should expect the lowest newDex ever made, for one very specific reason:

XY had only 72 because the other 28 were Megas. Alola only had 88 because the other 12 were Alolan forms.

It's clear by now that Gamefreak considers new forms as new Pokemons and also that they aim for an "100 new guys average" everytime. Thus you can expect SwoShi to have like, only 60 new monsters, because it has to waste 40 of them on Galarian forms plus Gigamax forms.
