In 3rd grade, I tested into the "smart kids" class, so I had to change schools to one that was 20 minutes away from my house. I'd never been the most popular back at my old school, but I knew LITERALLY NOBODY at the new one (and of course everyone had their own friend groups already), so I was truly alone. But I did manage to make one friend through our mutual love of Pokemon, and I regard him to this day as my first best friend.
At recess, we'd pretend to be Pokemon or Pokemon trainers
or Warrior Cats and roleplay these massive adventures across the school's big field at recess. Most vividly, I remember us pretending to be Pokemon Rangers after SoA came out, and we went through the Ranger School, which was conveniently located in the middle of the soccer field.
And, of course, there was the huge roleplay where I pretended to be Arceus and he my trainer, and we went around the entire schoolyard, trying to fight and catch all the legendary Pokemon. I still have the stick that we pretended to be my secret weapon that allowed me to use an attack more powerful than Judgement, simply named "ARCEUS".
But one day, in 4th grade, my best friend said that he was moving to a nearby city, and we only had a short while left before it was time to say goodbye. So, in those final recesses, we finished up our Arceus roleplay, catching all of the legendaries we hadn't caught yet.
We had a lot of good memories, and we stayed in touch for a while after that. I remember when BW came out, we hung out at his house and goofed around with the Xtranciever, then played this game where we had to pick up face-down Pokemon cards until only one was left.
We eventually drifted apart because sixth grade me was a complete dumbass, and now we don't talk. I glance at his Facebook every so often, though, and he seems to be doing well. Godspeed, my dude.
