I love their concepts— I’m not a fan of loftier concepts like time and space, life and death, etc., so offense and defense is a breath of fresh air. Same goes for their designs. This is the first time the box legends have been based on the same animal other than gens 4 and 5, and “dragon” is such a wide net that they hardly count. I think them being the same animal would be boring if they ever do it again, but for now having so much in common makes each of their unique parts stand out even more. It makes them feel like opposing forces, rather than just two things that happen to be related.
On the other hand, their color palettes are a pain to look at. I think they lend to the “regal” look, which works well with their concept, but it’s not worth having them look so gaudy. The designs are also pretty clunky. I’m fine with Zacian’s sword, what bothers me is Zamazenta’s head being the one part that’s not protected by its shield.
