Why was Ash's Unova teams so shit-tier in the anime?

Other than Krookodile who evolved after this ending theme, the rest of it is completely dull. His Unova starters are his weakest starters of the series, Uznefant is his weakest and forgettable bird pokemon, and while Leavanny, Scraggy and Boldore were ok...they didn't do much. And Palpitoad was used like twice.

WTF were they thinking with this team?

Krookodile was overrated as fucking hell and I hate that people think it's top-tier just because it won a few battles with assists and a literal win through surrender.

Just your usual BW trying good concepts with bad execution. yes the idea was for Ash to use Unova's vast dex in his favor, but it resulted in questioable catches and poor utilization of them all
Boldore and Palpitoad have questioning existencies
Unfeazant was obligatory bird that not even writers cared to develop, resulting in hardcore jobbing
Scraggy was a cool baby mon for Ash but lost traction in the run and didn't accomplish anything (never mastered Focus Blast)
Krookodile had a well-built enough plot into joining Ash and became a strong mon, though battles weren't numerous. Leavanny also didn't dissapoint and had a weirdo motif
Pignite... reharshed Charizard & Infernape storyline, however didn't wrok this time. At least it didn't job
At last, Oshawott and Snivy were basically characters of their own, and even though were jobbers, they provided some entertainment outside battles.

So there you go, bad team in the long run, but with some exceptions

Because they wasted too much time on filler episodes than actually developing the Pokémon. Look at how fucking bloated that team is, yet the only ones that have a lick of personality are the starters and Krookodile

The difference between his Kanto and Unova handling of his big team of Pokémon is that when the Kanto Pokémon got their spotlight they actually did shit and were memorable. There are literally people that don’t even know that Ash has half of the Pokémon in that group shot

Hoenn was really strong aside from Torkoal, and Kalos carried him to the only finals with stakes in the series

His Hoenn team is also pretty good but only because they were brought back and redeemed in Sinnoh. His Alola team is his best one though, he has a mythical.

No? His Kanto team is good too, as well as Hoenn and Kalos. His Alola team is the only real outlier as it looks strong but their W/L ratios and overall performance against other Pokémon leave much to be desired.

nah. Kanto was initially trash but the three starters are now basically veterans, redeemed in BF
Johto sucks, neither evolved nor NFEs didn't accomplish enough
Hoenn is strong and fought a shit ton of battles, however some of the win/loss rates are inflated from subpar opponents.
Sinnoh yeah based team. Exceptionally challenging region, pretty much all battles in Sinnoh were on high difficulty.
Unova you know the answer
Kalos team is unironically very strong besides jobber memes, battles werent many but the challenge was legit. Also Jobninja is still uncontested for one of the best mons despite its failure.
Alola... The team was BW tier before the League. It got boosted by a battle-wise pointless evo for Torracat, Naganadel coming back out of nowhere, and Memeltan evolving to become gag fighter. I cant take this team too seriously, but Pikachu and Cheetos Dog are goats in their own right.

Johto team was lackluster in their region, but at least the writers tried to fix them. Heracross got a lot of battles after, Noctowl was used in the Conway battle in DP, Phanpy evolved in BF, Cyndaquil evolved, Bayleef was ok.

Really the only weak link in the Johto team is Totodile
