Is anyone else happy with how secretive Game Freak has been with Sword and Shield? The game is so close to release yet I feel like there’s so much we don’t know. I’m glad they aren’t blowing their load like they did with S&M

Everything since XY has basically all been revealed before the game's release.

I'm not happy about dexit and I'm not buying the game, but I have been mostly enjoying the promotional campaign yeah

Except this way I can still absorb SOME info from the game to inform my buying decision without having everything spoiled.

I already know the starters evolve. I don't need them spoiled. But I do like knowing things like getting a bonus Gigantamax out of LGPE or the additional customization options.

You do realise they pretty much ignored the whole anger at dexit beyond saying "fuck off, it's happening. Shut up and deal" and moving right along with their reveal season? This little information was a deliberate response to everyone and their mother bitching they revealed too much in Gen VII before SM's launch.

I would If I trusted them at all. The fact they haven't actually slowed down the rate of announcments, just the amount of new info contained in them. Making Sirfetched and Galarian Ponyta their own reveals with nothing else is pretty worrying, but we will just have to wait and see. Not like everything wont get leaked next week anyway.

Other, lesser, franchises with far less market security may have to do that, sure. The very nature of the Pokémon beast means they can afford to not give a fuck about backlash (as evidenced by them doubling and tripling down on their stance over the 'dex cut, instead of folding to outrage and fan pressure) and keep ploughing on with the script.

It really doesn't help them that every excuse for the cut they put forward is almost immediately debunked, and also every single newly revealed Pokemon comes with the stigma of a taken slot, similar to Smash roster rage. If a new Pokemon revealed isn't immediately loved like Wooloo, GF eats shit in social media

How do you know that they didn’t pull planned marketing material as a response to the backlash? It’s too late in the game development to meaningfully fix the controversy, but they can try to be more silent about the game in the hopes that people’s anger summers down. We will never know either way but I don’t get why you’re treating your opinion as the only possible scenario.

why did they even make Ponyta a solo reveal? 99% of the actual footage from that stream just was Impidimp spreading his ass cheeks in front of the camera lens yet ponyta was the only thing they showed.

its fine if they want to make him some sort of "lel memey cryptid" but at least don't let it be at the expense of getting an actual reveal.

They teased the cries of like 5-6 new pokémon in among the already revealed returning pokémon and the Impidimp/G-Ponyta teases though. It was referencing crowdshared wildlife research and wildlife livecams (which end up pretty similar to what we saw in the Galarian forest).

I know its referencing wildlife cams though (but I think they still made it way more uneventful than needed). Doesn't sound like anyone cooling their intents on reveals because of a backlash honestly. But there's the elephant in the room of Gen VII's reveal and leaks show causing people to complain they had nothing to find out for themselves at launch. That has a further-reaching effect than a bunch of upset manchildren demanding they bow down to them and almost certainly informed the reveal roadmap they sketched out for the Generation.

Reddit livethread was unironically more autistic than this place, it tallied most every little moment that happened, several of which were unknown cries being sounded (I know there was one that played over a Phnatump floating about, as I was breeding for a shiny 'tump and wondering why the cry wasn't the same as in my game when it played).

Just remember, once the actual trailers started rolling they had no qualms revealing starters, returning Pokemon, stadiums and Dynamaxing
Yet, they kept quiet about the cutting Pokemon part until Bill put them on the spot during E3, and before you go "Bill obviously knew" just look at his face and body language during the "my LGPE shinies" part (During these kinds of events almost no questions with negative answers are asked)
Ever since Masuda's official statement of "fuck you, buy the game" was met with super negative reactions, Game Freak is being very, very cautious (and slow) with what they've shown, no more "It's a brand new world!"-like trailers have been presented, and we're a just a month away from release, again, look at LGPE's reveal schedule which was just a year ago

SM had a lot of information put out for it because it was an anniversary game and they wanted to advertise it as much as they could and the greater masses weren't actually angry at gamefreak at the time. Now all they have left is the twitter defense force. if they don't show anything, it gives people less things to use to show how bad the game is before release. they don't care about it being bad if nobody is able to know just how bad it is until after they buy it.

I'm convinced they would have kept quiet about the cut all they way to Pokemon Home's release window and would have come up with some bullshit about how it wasn't feasible to transfer non-Galar Pokemon to Sword and Shield months after most people had already done their one way 3DS/LGPE/Pokemon GO library transfers (The sneaky shits would have also had an unimpeded launch and doubtlessly gigantic sales which they would have spun off to Nintendo as "People are okay with smaller rosters)
