Real talk, guillotine doesn't have the same negative implications like in the game and it's funny people bring it up as a negative thing. A guy with blade arms swiping at your neck is of course going to fuck you up if you let yourself get hit and goodra's slow as molasses to react. Its strategy revolves around standing there and tanking hits (bide or not). Same with Hawlucha, it only worked because of paralysis slowing it down. Alan actually set it up with the paralysis beforehand. It wasn't treated like the 30% flip a coin like the game.

First league was self-explanatory which is why we got the charizard valley episodes where Ash shows his caliber as a trainer and makes zard respect him. In Harrison vs Ash, the loss was handled with respect. Harrison was the strongest there among the participants and the fight was so close and took so much out of Harrison that he lost the next round (he would have easily won normally) because Blaziken (the new starter being advertised) was out of commission. Greninja pulled out a super special move out of nowhere against an already injured zardx (courtesy of pikachu) and the only thing he could manage was to make it wobble. Zard X just stood there like it didn't give a fuck with Alan posing for his victory.
