Whether you like it or not, Pokemon Sword and Shield will net at least one billion dollars. If the games sell at least as poorly as Black and White (15 million), that's 900 billion dollars right there. Add onto that people buying Switches and Switch Online just for Pokemon, and then the eventual Pokemon Home, and you have over a billion dollars in money grossed from the most controversial games in the series.

Gen 9 could be a cartridge with just a .png of Charizard shitting onto a plate for you, and it'll still sell at this point.
