This. At least X/Y had around 5 months of board harmony until Bank was opened and then everyone began complaining and started shitting on it. S/M got shat on near instantly after release.

Nobody "defended SM to death", and XY mostly got a pass for its problems because everyone assumed we'd get a Pokemon Z that fixed that stuff. XY also came out at a time when people were pretty positive towards the franchise as a whole, since we were just coming off the incredibly well received B2W2 games.

Are you from bizarro /vp/? People has been shitting on new pokémon games since the very start, even the now so acclaimed BW and BW2 weren't safe from the constant shitposting.

USUM was widely hated, I remember a lot of criticism in Japanese amazon since the first day.

Also, a lot of people disliked LGPE

I don't know what you're talking about but SM didn't really get shit on like it does now until maybe a month or two in. Once people started going back to replay it, or start up the second version was when all hell broke loose. At release there were a lot of threads praising the battling aspects of the games, and the period before release where people were playing the pirated version of the game was decently positive. The criticism was there but it was mostly pretty minor and drowned out by people enjoying the game. The lack of new and exciting things since pre-release revealed them all was one of the major ones and that was already contentious during the hype season itself. The other major one was the Festival Plaza not being as convenient as XY's PSS and even people that liked that the idea of the plaza overall hated that it was tied to online the way it was.

The mix was leaning more positive though with negative voices getting drowned out at first. People also criticized the handholding/pace but they also tended to admit that the battles and gameplay portions of the game were better structured and built then XY/ORAS and that once you hit the middle of the second island the pacing was much better. A lot of little things were also widely praised by /vp/ that no one even mentions anymore too like the champion battle being different every time you do it.

After that first month or two it was all fucking negative though. Mostly because the tourists left sooner then they did with past games due to online being an absolute hassle compared to XY, and 4chan just in general becoming a more negative place overtime but at release itself things were still relatively positive and level headed.

No one defended LGPE because it was a retarded idea (Rehashing KANTOOOOOOOOO for the 6th time as if it wasn't tiresome by gen 6). Meanwhile SS is different as it acknowledges the lack of features, graphics and content and proposes the trade off of the National dex for a more quality game (which agree with it or not, that's gen 8's selling point).

Also I personally hated gen 6 at the door when they introduced megas

Because they were new Pokemon games and people weren't going into them armed with pitchforks and I Hate Masuda shirts the way they're approaching Swish Swoosh. XY was mostly disliked because they felt unfinished, so people didn't have a reason to expect SM to be a total shitshow.

At release XY was mostly forgiven because it had good online, a huge selection of Pokemon, and it was Gamefreak's first time working in 3D. The complaints were certainly there like crying about washed out models, or the shitty friends but a lot of people looked over the main game and lack of post-game even because online was fun. Post-Bank is where things really started to change but everyone was sure "Z will fix most of the issues"

And then Z never came and that list of things that Z was assumed to fix instantly turned into a list of flaws XY would never overcome and no one was able to defend it anymore. It was like a floodgate opened and a game people were already kind of mixed on was now 10 times worse.
