It’s because a new region and new Pokémon kept it interesting, building up on itself over the years
But now that they’ve removed the region as of gen VII replacing it with constant NPC stops to pad out the runtime and removed the Pokémon as of gen VIII replacing them with REALLLY BIG WEEDLES I think this franchise is pretty much a wrap
