Does gen 6 feel weak to anyone else? I don't really flat out dislike any Pokémon except maybe the Fennekin line but in presentation the generation just looks... lackluster. It has heavy hitters like Tyrantrum, Noivern, Dragalge but I cannot shake that feeling of everything looking really weak.

Found the dragonfag. I get what you mean, though. It's a mix of the big head designs and most of the new Pokemon being overshadowed by Mega Evolutions of old Pokemon.

Most of them are poorly- or over-designed. See Goodra's early evolutions which are simple and look good then compare them to Goodra. Also, a lot of them are kind of shitty despite being interesting

OP i thought your image only contained a small percentage of all the new mons in kalos. It blew my mind realizing that those are literally ALL of them. I knew there weren't many, but the fact that your image is wider than it is tall when the only thing it's showing is a 12-column grid of all the pokemon blows my mind.

Yep.
Both XY and SM had less than a hundred new mons introduced.
I'm guessing it's partially because GF considers new forms (megas and regionals) new mons, so that bloats up the count.

I really like half of them, kind of forget or dislike the rest. Clawitzer looks fucking awesome, and I really like Chesnaught/Noivern/Aurorus/Avalugg/Pangoro/Vivillon too.

Talonflame was based till they needed him bc it was too good.
Greninja is also pretty good
Aegislash was a fun mechanically and good if used properly.
Kelfkei was good for that gen only. Idk what happened to it.
Legendary mons were all strong bar zyguarde.
Other than that, yeah, this gen was pretty weak.
Even the psudo legend was pretty bad.

457 mons in the regional dex, only 69 of them new. Most of them have a single evolution. Makes them more forgettable than they'd have to be.

I have an unnaturally strong love for Pancham and Pangoro and I generally like a lot of the Gen 6 designs (Greninja line, Braixen, Espurr line, Aegislash line, Phantump, Sliggoo, Noibat line, Hawlucha) so I would say it’s fairly strong. Diggersby might legitimately be the worst Pokémon in existence though.

Quality over quantity in terms of design I reckon.
Hawlucha, Trevenant & Tyrantrum make the Gen on their own. Flawless legendaries too. Until Hoopa/Volcanion came along.

gen 6 is not bad, my only real dislikes from this generation are goodra, florges, barbinacle, the normal types (barring gogoat) and some of the legendaries. Most of the remaining pokemon are excellent, especially stuff like tyrantrum, heliolisk, noivern, trevenant, dragalge, etc.

Also: klefki is actually a super cool pokemon and one of the most unfairly maligned of all time. I seriously don't understand the hate.

Overall it might be the strongest gen design wise for me.

Great- Froakie line, Fletching line, Pancham line, Espurr line, Honedge line, Spritzee line, Inkay, Dragalge, both Fossils, Hawlucha, both grass/ghost lines, Noibat line, All 3 legends.

Good- Most everything else.

Disappointing- Binacle line, Clawitzer, Helioptile, Mythicals

Bad- Quilladin, Diggersby

It was definitely a difficult one. The introduction of the fairy type and megas helped soften how few cool pokemon there were.
I like maybe 30% of them though. That's pretty average.

Gen 6 is literally what I'm afraid of 8 becoming. I prefer to play the main game with a team of new Pokemon I like. Looking at this image reminds me that I couldn't even do that in XY.

Bad Grass and Fire starters as well as the lack of the standard minor legendary trio/quartet might contribute to its forgettableness.

There are some notable standouts though, like Greninja, Talonflame, Hawlucha, Hoopa-U, Sylveon and the Uber legends. I personally like Goodra, Malamar and the Espurr line as well but they are a bit more niche.

It has some of my favorite designs ever in it, I think the lackluster comes from the amount of Pokémon though, the smallest regional number we’ve ever gotten. So small we didn’t even have a trio like every single other gen (not including gen 7 where we got a quad)

Talonflame and Greninja are absolute god-sends.
Great designs and super fun to play with.
Aegislash, Dragalge, Heliolisk, Meowstic, Sylveon and Noivern are also all above average

The rest is just below average on my list, probably the first region to not introduce anything i strictly hate.
