1) Cargo delivery is unpredictable so it's best to move as far ahead of schedule as possible.
2) Letting pallets of product stay in a warehouse (especially someone else's warehouse where other people's product needs the space since Nintendo doesn't own or control said space exclusively) is costly and moreso to get it out express-like close to last minute. Nintendo doesn't have the money to waste on frivolous things like that.
3) Restocking. Since Pokemon is a big brand, they are going to want to ship more copies so even if they could have exclusive warehouse space, that space is still limited and not the only product they have to move.
