And the models/animations are all the same from XY/SM. They’re just liars. The marketing focus group kikes thought PokéDLC is better than making a good game so they cut it all. Any reasons they gave are lies. So either way, GF working on the graphics was the result of the cut isn’t an excuse because the graphics are awful, or it’s too hard for GF to make the game I which case they’re the ones that should be fucking removed from the franchise, not the characters. Hire competent devs because whether GF are liars or telling the truth they’re too incompetent to make this kind of game

Because this actually feels a more definitive answer to the question as to why it happened. The last two Gens were piss-poor in in-game activities, compared to the DS games. That alone is damning, but when taking into consideration the amount of time spent on the models potentially impacting how much time they had adding stuff to other areas of the games, it becomes somewhat understandable (I mean they were being noble even, knowing people would be pissed about a 'dex cut, so tried to struggle on adjusting to what they were feasibly able to implement - we even said Kalos needed a Z version to fix it, by giving it shit to do in-game to make the experience better). There's also the fact one man had to code the trials into Gen VII as there was no staff to spare to help him do so, them being required on other parts of the games. Now, what could have crunched the staff so bloody badly when all they were making was "cutscene corridor simulator 2016" as /vp/ consider them, if not having to work on the vast number of models restricting how much time they had to get the other parts of the game ready for launch?

It's the most bullshit excuse yet. They are just understaffed working on multiple bland shitty yearly releases spread thinly across all their cash cows.
They did not have to work on the models for every goddamn release.

You understand that Gamefreak can't just toss a model in and call it a day right? Every model, every Pokemon has to be tested throughly. They have to be tested for each location, each scenario/weather/time of day, for each move even if they don't have access to it because they might get it one day so they have to be ready. They have to be retextured, constantly re-lighted and re-worked as the game goes on. Testing over 2000 models due to shinies and forms in practically every situation over and over again from every angle to make sure they work. Actual game developers after the dex cut was announced outright stated that it was amazing that they didn't make the cut sooner because just testing those models is a ton of work in and of itself. It's not like a model can just be imported into every scenario and work instantly right away.

What do you mean "somehow"? The how's very obvious: they had an incredibly short timeframe to develop in that was fraught with scrutiny and meddling from the top brass, so they split their teams to develop in parallel and thus focused on a core design that would let them quickly develop content in a vacuum from its purpose and placement (shrines)

Doing that shit isn't as quick as you think and once again, by past experience of the past two bland generations, compared to when they only had 649 sprites with a couple of drawings for movement front-and-back to worry about displaying, they were able to concentrate on the game experience. Again, SOMETHING impacted development to the point where they actively stopped doing the little dungeons and side-activities they usually always did. Pissing about with 1000+ models during development seems the best shout to me from here.

What? BOTW is probably one of the best crafted open world games of all time story-wise. Every piece of the story works no matter what part of the world you're heading to flashback or otherwise, you can do anything part of the story in any order even stuff on the Great Plateau, and on top of that there are tons of hidden details and clues to the history of the world that you gather just by exploring ruins, talking to people, and looking over the world. It has an amazingly crafted story. It took some real damn skill to get that game to function as well as it did.

Yes, it's called wanting yearly games when it takes you over half a decade to do a game boy game.

Masuda openly admitted that was the goal and he didn't care if quality suffered.

3D is easier to deal with than 2D and it was better for the series by his own admission but it doesn't get done quickly enough.

And as a dev myself it's not just him saying that. I know for a fact it's easier. The only way 2D is easier is if you do a lot of recolors. That's why most games go that route even now in 3D.

I honestly can't think of a single feature in SwSh that looks so time-consuming to develop that they'd have to cut half the Pokémon from it. Random encounters are really old and rely too much on RNG and autistic and repetitive behaviour, liking it doesn't mean is not outdated. Is just the way it is.

Point and click adventure games are also old and stagnant, otherwise you'll see more to this date, sadly, is outdated, the flavour of the month genre is Battle Royale bullshit.

An already viable mon became overpowered bullshit, a shitmon became somewhat usable.

Gimmicks are that, temporary additions to make the game feel different from its predecessor. Dyna and Gigamax might be the next to go, but at least they make the game feel different which is the whole purpose of gimmicks.

I would agree that I rather have gimmicks be completely optional.

The open world is so fucking empty. There are literally only fields with tress/rocks and enemy camps. Nothing to explore unless you are looking for those stupid 900 korok seeds.
The settlements are incredible well designed, but everything else is just barren and half assed.
The game also only looks good when the sky is clear and the sun is out. They also faked it by never making it rain in the starting area until the cutscene where the old man reveals his actual self. So once you complete that part, you will have to endure the stupid rain every alternating 20 minutes.
The customization is shit tier. Whoever designed the clothes for link is a massive retard. Should have at least let players wear the npc clothes, which are designed much better.
And the weapon breaking mechanic, as immersive it is, forces people to only use certain strong weapons. So if you are looking to make the game more challenging, forget it.

It's the wild area. Graphics and subpar there because GF knows jack shit about optimization for large areas like this. It doesn't appear to use any LODs, which means they purposefuly made everything you can see from far away low poly. Other, more traditional areas of the games look fine.

They did say that they had "difficulty" bringing in all the Pokemon to SuMo. Which I think is a convenient lie to reinforce their excuse.
They did say the models were made from scratch, there was a whole kerfuffle about that. That's obviously a lie as well.
The reasons people said that porting models made less content is due to a line from Masuda during E3 stating that they will make up the loss of Pokemon with more content in the games.
In the end, that's also a croc of shit because they don't need to cut Pokemon to have more content. They need more hires and less split dev teams. Not release yearly.
