based italians interviewed masuda

"In the past few months many people talked about the removal of National Dex. So why do you think it's important to reduce the number of total Pokemon in Sword and Shield?"

>We came to the decision to reduce the number of Pokemon in Sword and Shield to only the regional dex of Galar only after numerous internal discussions, with Nintendo and The Pokemon Company. It's an argument we discussed for a really long time. When we think of the future direction in which we want to bring players in, we always aim to test ourselves to create exciting content that fans can appreciate. Having this objective it seemed to us that it was the right time to reduce the number of pokemon present in these games to regional dex only.
For the players who didnt use Pokemon Bank in the past, who didnt collect both versions of the games, there's not much of a change; exactly like in the past each region had certain pokemon present in it.
For the players who used the Pokemon Bank and enjoyed transfering pokemon from a game to another, this time they will only be able to transfer pokemon that appear in the regional dex of Galar.
For the rest of the pokemon there's Pokemon Home, a game that will be published soon, in which players will be able to transfer their pokemon and keep them there, waiting for the moment those pokemon will appear in a regional dex of another region and so will be able to be sent there.
It seemed right to us giving players a place to keep their pokemon and play with them.
In general, we want to dedicate as much attention to each pokemon that appears in the games, and to do so we decided that reducing the pokedex was an inevitable decision to take.
