Just play with one Pokemon at a time if you need it hard, or just play a better JRPG, there's plenty and the "captured monster" gimmick isn't that special that you NEED it to play better games like Dragon Quest.

The problem isn't the exp share, it's the fact Game Freak is too incompetent to take into account how often all your pokemon will be leveling up when making you fight NPCs.
