not going to buy a new system for a game I don't feel any interest in. The lack of info isn't helping either; usually some hype is developed by now with the reveal of some new Pokemon and starter evos, but everything they've released so far has been so underwhelming and boring

Indeed.

To be fair I see things I personally like but those things do not and cannot replace what's been removed, nor do some of them particularly belong in Pokémon.

I like the human character designs for the most part but that should've never been a focus, for example.

I'm honestly hoping that the lack of showing new stuff is them learning to not spoil the entire game like they did with SM, because then I'd have so much to discover myself. I would also, however, not be surprised if them barely showing anything is because the games lack content, but I beg to differ.

"Just okay" is what a lot of people are agreeing on, and that's where a big chunk of the friction is coming from.
It DOES look and feel like any other mainline game in the franchise, despite the fact they cut the dex to put more focus on making things better. I don't do living dexes, but I feel like if someone says they're trimming the fat to make something better, I expect an obvious improvement somewhere.
Same goes for the price increase. It's /just/ another Pokemon game that doesn't readily show any fuckhuge "OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY ADDED [THING]" that absolutely stands out from the rest of the series, so why would we pay more for the same thing?
