I been told that Tracey is no longer cannon really, so question is perhaps one of those time travel plots made it happen so he never came to exist...
So question to you anons:
When did this happen and how?

i kinda hoped that he would appear in that episode were ash and all the alolans went to kanto. because in the german version, he and lana share the same name ...well, she spelled 'tracy', but the pronounciation is the same

The last episode of BW literally had Ash remember all his traveling companions up to that point and the last ending of BW featured them as well. BW was a bit of a soft reboot and the writers seem to have gradually lost interest in anybody who's not Misty and Brock over time but the continuity from the original series is still going strong.

You're thinking of Richie. He'd not erased, he's just in the timeline where the Pokemon Center wasn't demolished. That's why he hasn't been seen since.

It's almost like the writers noticed the soft reboot strategy didn't pan out, so they retconned it with a few cameos and flashbacks...
I don't know, technically all the series are canon within the same timeline but, in my opinion, all the soft reboots and the whole "let's make Ash look even younger xdddd" trend turned the continuity into a mess. For me the original series along with AG and D&P is where it's at.

It's not that the old continuity isn't there, it's that the current shit doesn't mesh well with what came before because of a desire to soft reboot and redefine Ash. You'd be hard pressed to say the guy from the first episode is the same guy in the current SM anime. The only way to further distinguish them is to remove Pikachu since that is about the only constant.
