Luxray should be dark type because it sees without using visible light. To coincide with it's lore, it would make sense to give it dark typing. The dark/electric typing is unused, it would be cool to have a pokemon with it. Luxray is also a trash pokemon when it comes to battling. Giving it dark would make it a more usable pokemon. Luxray also learns a few dark moves, like snarl, thief, throat chop, and night slash (on top of the obligatory bite/crunch).
Also its fur is black.
