if you want to spruce up Typhlosion's design a bit, I'd give it red lines that light up when it flares (like Groudon's) as if lava was rolling down a volcano to convey its volcano inspiration a bit more and break up the flatness of its palette
obviously have to be careful with it though because too much would ruin it, like that pic does

"Based" means "overdesigned" now? Also, it shouldn't look like ~an actual mouse~ because it's only a mouse in the sense of the Japanese word, any small sufficiently rodenty-looking animal ends up being called ネズミ

The only remotely good one is the Cyndaquil and even then I'm probably reaching. My least favorite Johto starter is Cyndaquil but that's because I find its lack of ears pretty weird. Seeing a design that has ears just makes me like it a little more.

This, the molten lava pattern running down the back is genius.
Everything is else is nothing but overdesigned noise. Typhlosion might be acceptable if the claws were smaller and the face markings and chest fluff disappeared. Cyndaquil is inferior to the original too, but it'd look pretty good without the face markings. Quilava is just fucked, no way to fix it without scrapping most of it.
