It’s just you. Hop’s theme sounds like something from Colosseum. Bede’s theme sounds like it came straight from BW2. The Wild Battle and Trainer themes sound just what you’d expect from those types of themes.

It feels like it's all trying to hard to emulate a specific style and I really don't feel strongly about that. Your rival's theme is different though, sounding like a mix up of Gladion and Hugh which is perhaps great if you liked those two, but wholly unoriginal in its execution. That said, I do enjoy this theme quite a bit, though it sounds nothing like "the theme of the professor's assistant."

Nah, XY's OST is boring as fuck and even the best tracks in the game sound bad compared to anything from other generations, even SM's tracks are more memorable and interesting. The battle themes especially are the worst and it started the unnecessary techno battle music trend that SWSH seems to be picking up right from. Also the anime's rendition of the game's OST is always better than the original thanks to Miyazaki, especially in XY's case and the anime uses BW's OST way more, the BW Leauge theme is basically used in every single battle at least once.

In my opinion XY's OST excelled in the environmental stuff. Most of the route and location themes are some of the best (especially for the 3DS games), but the battle themes mostly let it down. Only Lysandre is a standout to me.

The route themes are okay, Route 15 is a clear stand out and Route 8 and 18 are alright. The other songs are either very generic or just suffer from bad arrangement. For the town themes, only the ones done by Hitomi Sato (Geosenge, Shalour, Coumarine) are a real standout since they sound so different to the other songs. Snowbelle is also great but all the other songs are painfully generic especially Lumiose and Laverre

Pokemon's soundtrack changes with the times, man, as do Pokemon. There is no "This is Pokemon" when it comes to this franchise. Different people come in to make the OST for this series in each project, and different people make the designs for Pokemon.

And it's not like we haven't had synthetic and techno music before this.

I play many other games, JRPGs included and yes, I do think that most of them have better soundtracks than Pokémon.
But in the context of this franchise, Zinnia's theme is quite unique, and I'd like to see them compose more pieces like it.

It does sound pokemonesque but from the Mystery Dungeon side music genre, the closest thing it could sound like in the mainline games it would be a gate or shop or some facility rather than a character.

I really haven't liked the music we've seen so far. I'd say there's a reason harpsichord and bag pipes aren't generally played as mainstream instruments. The music in this game is hard to listen to
