A core part of pokemon is switching Pokemon during battle. There are various reasons to switch Pokemon (better type advantage, to get rid of confusion or stat changes, etc.). Furthermore, if my Pokemon die, I'm allowed to Switch to another one.
In other games, I can play without Exp Share, but still have the ability to change Pokemon during battle.
If I can box my pokemon from anywhere, sure, I can put all but 1 of my pokemon in the boxes so only 1 of them get Exp. But by doing that, I'm no longer able to change Pokemon during battle. Also, if my 1 Pokemon dies, then I've lost the battle.
