>>40524531It has always been there despite the fact that it only made sense to be so heavy about 1.75 times (not fully two since the second and third time should've been lesser or fixed much of it and they didn't).
Unova was itself entirely based on Kanto, you mental invalid. That's why they cut them until postgame. Masuda outright said as much in his blog. It was seen as being good on their end because it harkened back to Kanto. Unova = Kanto 2.0.
Gen 1 = Kanto.
Gen 2 = Johto oh, and Kanto.
Gen 3 = Hoenn and Kanto remakes (which specifically disallowed Johto and Hoenn additions to any of the lines there until postgame even though it damn well shouldn't have).
Gen 4 = Sinnoh and Johto but also Kanto (in a game where they should've made Johto more prevalent by fixing things like encounters to not favor Kanto in not Kanto but they didn't).
Gen 5 = Kanto 2.0.
Gen 6 = Kalos and Hoenn but... DID SOMEBODY SAY KANTO?!
Gen 7 = Alola but it's really just island KANTOOOOOOOOOOOO!
It's worse now but it's always existed and Unova began the trend of depending upon nostalgia while pandering to graphicfags and removing and dumbing down content.
Stop making shit up in your head, by the way. Not Unova doesn't mean Gen 1, you fucking mental invalid. no one was sad that Riolu or Mareep made it into main playthrough for B2/W2. If that's what Game Freak thought it meant that's what we wanted then that's telling only of what they think, not the people complaining. Most of us did not give a shit about what it came from, as long it wasn't just from Unova.
Just like we didn't when Gen 3 and 4 didn't lock you to region only for the story but people did also complain about Gen 3 not being able to take shit from GEN TWO. Which meant Kanto and Johto, just in case you can't figure that out.
And no, pandering to the past isn't bad. Basically everything does it because people stick around over time. The point is to not just give 34 versions of Mario as you Smash roster.
