Before fairy type was officially announced we more or less knew for a fact it would be that, but about half the board vehemently denied it would be a type. Plenty of anons threatened to quit the series if it was real because it was too girly
As far as big controversies Megas weren’t too well received and people denying the Greninja/Hawlucha leak was pretty funny

Pretty strong hype season, coming off the heels of BW2. Fairy type was very controversial to start, megas were even more so. There were a ton of fake leaks as always, but some people got the game like a month early and everything was spoiled.

The Sylveon debacle was hands down the greatest era of /vp/ regarding denialfags.

There were threads every day for months vehemently denying the possibility of a new type or insisting GF wanted to surprise everyone with a normal or flying type.

Even after Pokemon Sunday (Or whatever it was called at the time) did the whole "What's the type?" show and it basically ended with the strong implication there was a new type you had people vehemently screeching that they don't know what they're talking about because Gamefreak and TPC have nothing to do with the show. A show that those companies use to market their brand by giving them trailers, and other things. The backlash Fairy got because it was a nerf towards Dragon and Dark was also too fucking good and /vp/ at it's bitterest.

Generally positive.
Even after X/Y was released the hype died down to reveal the negative aspects, people thought "it still looks alright for a 3DS game, imagine how it'll look when they build upon it". At least I believed it would be the 3DS Diamond/Pearl aka the first flawed games to grace a new system before improved HG/SS/Platinum were made.

Then ORAS came around and boy, what that a disappointment.

fairy was one of those instances where the proof gradually piled up and the denialfagging began to wane. greninja/hawlucha were almost unanimously denied and i can't even slate them for it because i was part of that very same camp, they just had this 'fakemon' feel to them.
