She isn't standing on water, she isn't part of the environment as this is a separate instance to overworld and shes just a representation of your opponent that is immediately removed from the play area via pan when shes no longer needed.

This is different from Sword and Shield where overworld battles are not separate instances but happen inside the enviroment, if the character is standing on water during the battle then they are standing on water in the overworld as that is where the battle is happening, that water isn't a terrain indicator but the actual terrain the trainer and their pokemon are currently standing on. To add insult to injury this is being rendered almost two decades after OPs pic so even if they really were both standing on water there has been almost 20 years to fix it yet GF hasn't or won't

In Sword and Shield its not an abstraction, battle happen in overworld so if the character is standing on water in battle they are actually standing on water in the game as its the actual enviroment hes occupying, thats the difference. The 2D game is an instance and the sprites are not actually part of it or the even terrain really which is just an indicator as you can be standing on dry land and still get the water terrain indicator, its not the enviroment its just a instance. Perhaps its you who is coping by making yourself blind to bad physics in SwSh

No they aren't. Notice the dark and light shade of water in the image. There dark shades of water covering land you can walk on in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. That's what that is.

What do you mean by that, also are you considering they clearly not all on the same hardware and even a large gap between them? Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald were on GBA which had 1/4 the pixel resolution as those other screen capture, for GBA Emerald had plenty of soul, it depends on your perspective. Disagree, how about comparing to games on the same hardware from the same contemporary period.

The problem between the 2 games is that swoshi has your trainer and Pokémon on the field. Instead in older generation it was only your Pokémon.

Since GF has improved on this graphics and battle mechanics, why not find a good way battle on water?

I challenge you: did you even put attention to trainers on water in RSE or any other previews games?

Those other games all have less assets in total than Pokemon.
That's just how game development works. RPGs tend to have worse graphics than other genre due to the amount of assets that need to be produced. And Pokemon has even more due to the amount of Pokemon.
It's why fighting games tend to have the best graphics since there's so little assets they need to work on.
