So as gen 7 is coming to an end, just post teams/sets that you enjoyed. All tiers and VGC are welcome.

I'll start off with one of my favourite offense teams, built around keeping hazards (mostly rocks though) off your side of the field and keeping them up on your opponent's side. If done correctly just sweep with Gyarados.

Stealth competitive thread? I remember there used to be more competitive discussion here on /vp/ before. Anyway, I built this team with the intention to cover as many threat as I could. There are some surprise techs in here that would catch people off guard. Towards the end, I modified a couple of moves and spreads. Cool team, btw.

Sand can be tricky I sometimes, but notice I have Rain Dance on the Pelipper. Cancelling out their weather to bring mines back puts them at at massive disadvantage and gives me a ton offensive pressure with Swampert. For Kartana I have Incineroar and Koko who can both easily OHKO it unless its sashed.

Grassium z fucks up a lot of shit. Gastrodon, fini, rotom (unless its fast), tyranitar in sand, gliscor in grassy terrain, garchomp and alakazam on switch in, even sableye after magma storm. It's being slept on. Energy ball is the best move for reuniclus in this team; pseudo stab in terrain and puts in work against rain. But,yes.

Honestly, there are a lot of great Heatran sets that nobody considers. Modest Specs is a set I recently used, not many mons can switch in on that (I used overheat for the memes once, seeing Pex taking up to 40% from a resisted hit is fun)
I feel like Magma Storm, toxic, taunt is realy great on paper but hitting the magma storm is another thing. That's why I hate using Tornadus-T, Hurricane is just cursed.

Snorlax was hands down my favorite Pokémon of this era competitively. GameFreak buffing Figy/Aguav berries etc. really made the Gluttony with Belly Drum/Recycle set viable and it performed well on every team I put it in.

If you were curious my usual set was:

+Def, -Spe Nature, 0 Spe IV

Belly Drum
Recycle
Return
High Horsepower/Heavy Slam

The 244 HP EVs are important to make sure that Snorlax gets to exactly 50% health on Belly Drum to trigger Gluttony. He's good against trickroom and as a switch in due to his high special defense.

I feel like it's a bit much, but it's better than some teams that completely lack grass coverage and just lose to some random Gastrodon or Quagsire. Grass coverage is essential imo, especially when you consider how many rain teams are around.
I'll use that team later, it looks fun to use.

Agreed, Magma storm can miss at the most inopportune moments. I used specially defensive Heatran for a long, long time. Most of the time it was dead weight. I tried really hard to like it. Grassium Z is just insane. Gets at least one KO per game, but more like 2-3. Haven't looked back since.

Protect or sub Bulu is awesome, my favourite set right now is scarf though. Decent late game sweeper with wood hammer. Unless you're Skarmory, Celesteela or Heatran, you WILL take a lot of damage.

I recently took a liking to regular kyurem, so many balance teams can't deal with it (Assault Vest Magearna gets stalled out of Fleur Cannon PP for example)

This team isn't competitively viable is it? I'm trying to wrap my head around competitive play and I thought maybe I can make a fun sand team and use what I learned. The only thing I learned was how to make a team that gets destroyed by ground types

What format? I assume it's singles. I don't play singles but looking at your team I can tell you right off the bat that Mega Garchomp isn't very good. Sure it has lots more attack but at the sacrifice of speed and the fact that youre giving up an item. Also you should have at least one Sand Rush mon like Excadrill.

Also if you try to make a full sand team put Excadrill on it. Replace Stakataka for Exca (assuming it's Z-move Stakataka) and Empoleon for Swampert, Assault Vest Tangrowth or, hell, Keldeo. You have Metagross and Celesteela to deal with Lele, so why not use the MLP-fanfic

Don't know if it's competitively viable, but I don't really care. Turtonator was my signature mon and Araquanid got really bad towards the end of the game, but was pretty good for most of it (specially considering how long it took for Ruflet and Fomantis to evolve)

Most of these make sense, kind of, but the synergy isn't the greatest. I love that you have Mega-Garchomp as wallbreaker, it hits incredibly hard in sand.
Hyper offense/Sticky Web offense (and rain, kind of) run through this team like a hot knife through butter. Also you have no terrain setter which can work (many rain teams have no tapu), but not on this team. Also, you need speed control.

That's one of the reasons why Kartana is so fucking good. Yeah it drops to any special attack, but it's so strong that it won't get hit by said special attacks.
Xurkitree's problem is being slower than scarf-Lando.

to add to this: That's why I put scarf Latios on the team. Memento + Ice Beam + A really strong STAB attack in Draco Meteor. And many people keep their Lando/Garchomp in against it for whatever reason.

Pretty much yeah, SD Lando typically bodied the entire team whenever I encountered it. Most people I battled ran defensive Lando though, so it wasn't as big a threat as it could've been. I probably just lucked out.

How long does it usually take after a gen starts for the top tier pokemon to rise to the top? Does meta usually change a lot throughout a gen or is it usually figured out pretty quickly?

yes and no. Bans (like Arena Trap for example) change it up a whole lot, but some mons (like Landorus-T) stick around. Some meta changes occur during/after tournaments though.
