I started Disgaea 5 and unlocked the Cheat Shop a soon as I could (You need to enforce the law by fighting or paying the Dark Assembly so they vote for you), I put the difficulty setting on 4/20 (Default = 0) and the game instantly raped me with 80 levels above my strongest character. The boss literally summoned 30 lvl130 zombies 4 times in the battle before I lost and my characters were all around lvl100.
It is indeed retarded in Disgaea, because the game is kinda retarded too. Yet, if you don't want to change anything, the game provides an optimal experience by default.
I don't know for XC2, though.
