The base of the argument is literally that would you tell (Group A) shouldn't protest (Group B) because you think it would do nothing.
He frames this as asking would you tell the protesters of the Chinese government that they shouldn't protest because it "wouldn't do anything" which yes is true.
It's framed this way because he was attempting to hit his "opponent" with the question in a way that would force them to agree with him, its framed as to agree that the Hong Kong Protesters should protest regardless of result is to agree with him that pokemon fans would do the same.
If anything the SumeragiSeven user made the direct comparison either thinking it was a direct comparison cause they are stupid or deliberately creating that straw man to devalue his argument.
Either way both are dumb for arguing on twitter, its a terrible platform for debate and causes people to get sloppy and also marginally dishonest.
