The purpose of marketing is to convince the viewer to buy the product.
Sun and Moon showed enough that it convinced people to buy the games. However, it then showed too much which ruined the surprise of the game.
Sword and Shield is not revealing enough to convince people to buy the game.
You need a middle ground where you show enough that it convinces people to buy the game, but not too much to spoil everything. Of course, if the product lacks content, then they can't help but show nothing, but we can only speculate about that until the game comes out.
But sure, act like a fucking retard and pretend middle grounds don't exist so you can defend your precious Gamefreak.

If the most recent trailer had been the starter's middle stages instead of the Gigantimax pandering, the marketing would have been perfect until release. Your starter will likely evolve before the very first gym in these games (based on Milo's Lv. 19 ace), so it's not spoiling much to know what direction they will take and helps to pick one.

But instead they chose to spoil Leon's Gigantimax ace. Something that actually would have been fun to see in action at the climax of the game. Fucking GameFreak.

It depends on how many new pokemon + forms exist in the game. Sun and Moon didn't have enough and blew their load. If there are a shit load of new stuff that they haven't shown, then they should have done a better job throwing us a bone. Revealing the starters second forms would be a good start. If it's similar to gens 6 and 7 concerning content, then they're doing pretty great.

As it stands, the games seem like they have no content, and TPC was banking on everyone shitting themselves over the Max forms.
We're in an era where the internet is all-encompassing anyway, so when the games come out, everyone and their mothers are going to post like hell about how they thought such-n-such Pokemon is so cute, or drawing fucktons of lewds of everything, while the furries make their dumb recolor OCs of all the new Pokemon.
Might as well have more of the reveals come from an official source than to have your entire Twitter/Facebook feed bombarded all at once on release.

All we've actually seen of substance is 3 gym leaders (bea and allister count as one due to version differences), the existence of alternate forms, that gigantamax exists and that the wild area is 'le ebin open world'. While that is content, we haven't actually seen the areas of the game. We have no clue about the actual scale we're looking at. I'd take more gameplay of the region over battle 30 seconds of battle footage anyday. Battles never really change aside from whatever the generation's gimmick is anyways.

TL;DR: I would rather they reveal less dynamax and regional form shit if it mean more gameplay of the rest of the game. But of course, not everyone is like me.
