Explain to me why people hate tangrowth. I get that he’s worse than his gs beta design but people have hated him way before we knew about that.

I love Tangrowth it’s my favorite grass type, but I will admit to design flaws like how instead of having individual vines like Tangela it’s just a blobby mess, also don’t like its stubby feet and that the part above the feet isn’t black like the area around its eyes

Tangela is cute and mysterious. tangrowth just makes it ugly and turns it into a generic four armed creature.the beta evolution was able to keep it mysterious looking while also using its vines as limbs and not giving it defined arms and hands.

None of the gen4 evos of previous-gen pokes are good. Magmortar/Electivire are overdesigned, Tangrowth is literally "Tangela with arms", Leafeon and Glacion are inferior Eeveelutions in every way (and add an arbitrary evolution method in every game), Mamoswine is straight-up hideous, Protopass is literally a jew, etc.

It lacks charisma, tangela had some more. Tangrowth got fatter and lost it's feet. But the main reason is that it loses it's previous slight spherical shape and that it loses detail on some of it's vines, giving it a much worse aesthetic for the average pokemon fan. I like tangrowth, but sometimes you can objectively criticize something even if you subjectively find it great.
