Reminder that videogames aren't The Pokémon Company's priority and that they haven't been since at least gen 2.
Reminder that over half of that 20% for videogames is Pokémon Go

The goal of mainline Pokémon games is to advertise merch, not the other way around.

Games cost $60 now, but tshirts toys and dildos are about $25 a pop or more. And some people really like buying several Pokemon things. You don't just keep buying copies of SwSh unless you're a special level of OCD

Have you ever been inside a Pokemon Center somewhere in Japan?

Kids and random locals always buy shit from there. Then there are gaijins who come to Japan just to splurge hundreds if not thousands of dollars for just Pokemon merch.

The stores always have foot traffic even when there aren't any new games around.

aren't the games still crucial for creating the context/fantasy that the anime uses as its basis and makes the plushies appealing?
Or would you be of the opinion that the general gist of Pokemon is so ubiquitous by now that people would just keep buying merch for the creature designs themselves, the cards for the gameplay itself, etc?

Well, let's see. I've personally bought my entire team in plushies of gen 1 and gen 2 and my entire secondary team in gen 1 and gen 2 and all their evolutions at $11 each. That's a couple hundred dollars of plushies

I feel like they could do a better job designing the interior to make it more "soulful". Right now it looks like a gift shop at the end of an Aquarium. And I do understand that it is a giftshop to some degree, it looks really bland on the interior (at least from that picture, I've never actually been to one).

I feel like it should really be jazzed up with Pokemon stuff and pictures and set pieces and pieces of furniture -- not just white walls with with white shelves that are packed with stuffed animals.

Yeah the top of my wardrobe has a bunch of plushies I collect. I have these from Build-a-Bear, Zekrom, Xerneas, Mega Charizard X from preordering ORAS, Pikachu I won from a claw machine, Gogoat, Alolan Sandshrew, Decidueye, Buzzwole, Latios, and I had a Hoopa-U but my dog got ahold of it and I haven't seen it since. Two friends on different occasions each gifted me a Pikachu figurine as well knowing I like Pokemon, and I have a blanket with the Kanto starters in the living room.

That all being said, when anons do those merch threads, a lot of people outnumber my collection very easily.

I meant about the furries. People who are part of a community always assume that their community is much bigger than it actually is.
Furries are a really tiny portion of the population.
