That's 5 of my favorite pokemon that, for at least half a decade, do not exist. They will get no new moves, no access to new features like nature changing, no new items. No nothing. I can't even play with them online. And in future generations, who's to say they'll be back? Maybe the one who made it gets cut next time and I have zero pokemon for another 5 years. Or maybe my Pokemon get no new features at all, and then have to sit out another generation before they get something to bring them up to speed. That's 10-15 years before I get to use my favorite Pokemon again.
It's as if Gamefreak walked into my house, killed my dog, and said that's okay because in an indeterminate amount of years maybe they can resurrect his brain. "Why not just get new favorites?" is like "Why don't you just get a new dog?"
Furthermore, if Pokemon are truly interchangeable the way Gamefreak and their shills claim, why is Charizard not getting cut? You can just get a new favorite after all.
