I honestly really liked rival Serena, maybe my second favorite rival. It was pretty good to see someone that actually seems affected by you curbstomping them all the time. Especially since she was on top since her parents were famous trainers and you're just some nobody out of nowhere.
I feel they could have expanded that more, but I guess they can't make her get too salty or frustrated at you or anything like that, otherwise people would definitely take it the wrong way.

This to be quite honest. The way she says her new goal is to help you improve, that particular dialogue made me realize how much of a meme the "Respect you as a friend" thing was. If you are about to start a relationship, of course you are going to want to feel respected and admired. Rivalrena comes to accept that she feels those two things for the MC and that's why she accepts these feelings as a north for her newfound goals, which coincidentally have the MC as their core.

I think it's mostly a kind of trick of the mind. Every time you beat her she throws her head down in shame and it;'s just so memorable. We never got an actual expressive rival before that so that's the memory that sticks with most people.
