Anon, i know it may be hard to believe, but most people have complained about Pokemon BEFORE SWSH.
Don't you remember BW's backlash for the exclusive regional dex?
Or the fact BW2 weren't 3DS titles and recycled assets just 1 year after release?
Or XY's barren postgame and shallow level design? The kanto pandering? The NDS tier 3D visuals? The obvious cut corners?
What about SM's forced plot handholding you? The fact it had no national dex? The yet again kanto pandering? The tons of cut content that was still coded in the game? The framerate? The fact they sold a game with 4 new pokemon a year after for full price and ULTRA CHANGES? The fact it was a 3DS title instead of a switch title? Or perhaps wasting 80 dollars to get the complete alola experience?

Because Pokemon is more than just the game. It has to coincide with the anime and all the new merch. Delaying the game means delaying all of these too which would probably cost them a whole lot of money, and you know how grubby The Pokemon Company is about money. I know people blame GameFreak about being lazy assholes, which is definitely at least partly true, but I still think The Pokemon Company is the biggest good-game-killer with forcing these deadlines.

Pokemon is machine. You can't delay games, because then the whole machine comes to a halt. The anime would have to be pushed back, the tcg would have to be pushed back, the new merchandise would have to be pushed back, whatever yearly release they have planned for next year would have to have its announcement pushed back, and who knows what else.

You clearly are either misremembering or are too young to have been here or just on the internet in general when BW came out. People were fucking pissed about the national dex being locked until postgame, forcing you to only use the new Pokemon.

SS's issues are highlighted in neon fucking lights because of the increased price and the fact that they've been shoveling "LGPE is for the newbies, Gen 8 IS FOR THE FANS" down our throats for the last year.
Not to mention that SS is the first real console Pokemon game in a long time, so expectations were high.
Now we have a NatDex cut, and the STAR feature of the gen, the max forms, looks somewhere between shit and mediocre.

Funny enough when BW was announced people felt this way. The fact that it was a sprite game was controversial, and Nintendo's next hand held was rumored and most felt BW should have waited for it. A lot of people even felt BW's Dex lockout was to test the waters for new games in the series not having everything. At the time we all assumed once the series hit 3d they'd start cutting Pokemon. It was a hotly debated topic.
