>>40571934Started with Gen I, played II simultaneously, skipped the RSE part of III because I didn't know it existed, played IV and before V went back and played RSE, rest of them were in the release order. Favourite generation is IV although the DS Era as a whole is the best.
The longer I look back on the generations my opinions of them change, for a long time I hated BW but got over that hatred years ago and my opinion on those games is a lot higher than it used to be, similarly over time my opinion of RSE has worsened, I used to regard it as highly as Gen IV but it's soured with time. Gen I and II I acknowledge their faults and they'll never be the best generations but they're cathartic in a nostalgic manner and tbqh I think people would still enjoy the original versions of RBY and GSC just as much as any other generation.
My opinion of Gen VI swings pretty frequently, on release it was very high although after some reflection on my opinion of the series between ORAS and SM, Gen VI became pretty negative although lately I've regarded it in more of a melancholic light, it's hard to look on that generation and not think about what could've been. Gen VII meanwhile has just gradually gotten worse with time, I'd probably regard it as my least favourite generation although Gen VIII without even being out yet is doing a good job disappointing me to an equal degree.
My current standing is that IV is the best with V being very close second, VI is a distant third with III being just after it and VII being pretty far down. I and II I don't think I can or would want to regard in comparison because of the stark differences between them and the rest of the series as well as nostalgia.
