>>40572484>>40572487He's right though. I used to think it was You-NOva, but it's You-nuh-vuh in all official spoken English material. It's a play on Unity/togetherness and United States of America. Isshu also had a meaning of togetherness in Japanese, but it was decided to localize the name further in different countries to better convey the theme to different audiences. Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh are just words to most people, and most don't realize they're altered Japanese words. But even the Japanese meanings aren't clear (minus Kanto) because they're written in katakana instead of kanji which has meaning. Masuda would say what each name meant, but in Gen VI+, they've started using words based on a variety of languages instead of Japanese.
