I actually regularly daydream about my neverever dream game that's a pokemon tactical rpg a-la Xcom, with full terrain, elevation, line of sight, terrain aptitude, jump, climb, fly stats, unique animations for most moves on most pokemon, with most moves having utility functions.
As an aside, I often consider that the same move used by different pokemon might have very different practical methods. Classic example would be the Crunch used by most pokemon, and the Crunch used by Crawdaunt. Crawdaunt isn't using its mouth, obviously it's using its claws.
A "move" only explains the end result, not the way that result is attained.

>>40587363My way kinda helps with this, multiple ways to use the same move and all. Some pokemon, like say, Skuntank or Weezing, are building a chemical mixture that combusts with air. Zoroark is tapping into its latent kitsune-esque abilities, calling something more akin to faerie fire
Shadow Ball and Toxic in particular can be awkward, given the vast array of pokemon that learn them. Shadow Ball I've added a possible "blank" elemental energy as an explanation, and similarly, most pokemon seem to have some sort of chemical emitter, so logging a sort of way to expel an inert, but disgusting substance seems adequate.
