>>40590984I think Red and Blue were a special case/product of the time. I agree, lots of projects have bombed on release. But Pokemon has a very lively world that could easily flop if the games didn't have those expressions.
I will say the simple nature of it helped greatly. Any other region COULD work if the same amount of care went into make sure the audience could feel the expression through sprite work, but the themes and story lines would go over heads.

Nothing wrong with having a gen 1 mon on a champions team (Hell I would even prefer if a champion had a gen diverse team to show how much of a skilled trainer they are), but a Gigantamax is clearly and ace and it could have been a G-Max of a Gen 8 mon.
