The stable is coming together, stepping out of developmental, and preparing for their first PPV at Proving Grounds in the Asperter's Stadium in Aspertia City, Unova.

I usually randomize types and set the color randomizer to fit their new types but didn't this time around because I never get far with that ;w; I could see Orchid being part ghost, dark, or poison though.

Tanya (Magmortar) and Liu Kang (Lucario) were both killed by Lucian's Gallade. I'm just now starting to realize why many chose not to use healing items on these runs. I set up 3 SDs with Kitana (Gliscor) on Spiritomb in between max potions and swept her entire team with healing in between. It'll be nice to have a Gligar in Unova.

I swapped out my Bibarel for something I actually like to use AND boxed Staraptor for Murkrow. I've never used one and Nuzlockes are all about using mons you never used before, so what the hell.

So far, in every successful run I had, my starter dies at some point. My Swampert died to Sheer Cold during the Elite Four, Brionne died against the Totem Salazzle in Moon, Torterra died to a crit Ice Fang from a Gyarados on the way to Bryron’s Gym, and in a questionable White run, Samurott was the only Pokémon that died against Ghetsis.

Hoping to break the curse in my HG Nuzlocke.

For me, in both my randomizers my starters died (in Platinum I dont remember who it was - I think a dratini? But in White 2 it was a Luxray who got critted right before gym 8)
But in vanilla they live the whole way through. Maybe because a lot of gyms are designed to be easy if you chose a specific starter? I'm also 6 badges into a Moemon nuzlocke and my Swampert is still alive. I should have played with champ clause rules though because my team is overlapping a lot with my first emerald one.

Probably FRLG, I think it's among the lowest in difficulty in the ranking in the OP even. Generally not as tough as some of the other games can be and you get plenty of good mons to work with. Really though, as long as you don't go for USUM (especially without EXP Share), Platinum or BW2 as your first I think it's up to you, all the games have some moments of difficulty in them and it usually comes down to the mons you're stuck with and any additional rules you use (obviously recommending using only the standard rules for one's first time before adjusting from there depending on how hard/easy it was)

Depends on how up to date you are in Pokémon. I’d say Gen III or Gen IV are good, definitely go for Gen Vi if you don’t mind W/B’s Unova Pokemon only thing it has going on.

WE WON. To think this victory all hinged if Jai was fast enough to outspeed the Gyarados (he was).

Unfortunately, two casualties happened during the fight against Lance, the rest of the Elite Four was easily to deal with.

R.I.P to Faerghus who died because of my own stupidity and underestimated the speed Dragonite had on him, and to Lt. Guffaw, who died from a critical Hyper Beam in an attempt to wall the same Dragonite. At least his death was not in vain, as he let me heal the other Pokémon to an extent.

Shoutout to Jai being the MVP of this match, as he fucking poisoned the Aerodactyl twice while fighting him, and holding on at 11 HP after reaching the healing limit per battle.

Proving Grounds proved too intense for one of our number, as Johnny Valiant got pinned and Future Endeavor'd after Junkyard Lillipup gave him a thumping. Other than that though it went pretty smooth.

Next PPV is almost immediately after without even getting time to recruit new superstars. Slam Session at the Poison Apple Concert Hall and Bar, Virbank City, Unova. Rumors are that we may even go up against Koffing Kingston or WhirliPete Dunne.

I’ve decided that instead of having them completely die, Faerghus and Lt. Guffaw are now retired. Faerghus was saved because of Lance’s affinity towards Dragons and Lt. Guffaw is in critical health but alive for the time being. However, they can’t be used in battle until the end of Kanto gym run, so I still can’t use them for the Nuzlocke, but they are available for Red’s battle. I think it’s fair.

Turns out they were all jobbers.
Doink clowned on all of them and evolved in the process.

Afterwards some of the superstars got deals to star in bad movies for tons of money and we moved onto the next city. I also found a fiery and promising but inexperienced prospect before leaving town and a Ring Rat was discovered whoring around backstage. She can hang around as long as she pulls her weight.

After we see the sights around the city we'll be ready for the third PPV. Art of War at the Unovan National Art Museum, Castelia City, Unova.

trying to get it all set up but everytime ilaunch either the rom from the pastbein or the randomized rom im just getting a white screen. I tried switching to 128K memory on VBA and downloaded VBA-M and tried it but both of them are giving me the white screen. Any known fixes?

Made it to Kanto without issue, did the Machine Part quest, have yet to fight any gym.

Captured Snorlax with the Immunity ability, which I found out the hard way when I sent out Zui to poison him. He nearly died to Giga Impact, but all is good now.

Gyarados is an HM slave for now, will replace later.

Psychic Badge down, decided it was time to break out the nukes early this time by adding Kali to the team, it could behoove me to save Medicham for ORAS, but I think she's gonna be integral to finishing this run. Same thing with Photon, but from personal experience, I don't remember Gengar being too useful in Gen 7, so might as well get some good use of them now

I like to imagine that certain types of Pokemon have similarities in personality. Like fighting types wearing their hearts on their sleeves, dark types being quiet and aloof, bug types being extremely simple-minded, steel types being clinical and showing little emotion, etc.
And because of this, humans tend to have a type or two that they gel with the best, explaining why in-game trainers rarely use a team with good coverage even though it would be a huge tactical advantage.
The protagonist is, of course, a prodigy who has affinity with all types.

Just got to Driftveil. Kinda mad about Bouffalant desu :( He was a good lad and I loved his color palette.

Brought Gligar onto the team. He doesn't hit very hard but he's nicely bulky with the eviolite and was able to learn Toxic via TM.

Just beat the bug gym thanks to Gimba and Viola.
Current naming convention is alphabetical order, starting with my trainer's name Annah
Carrie was the forced first pidgey encounter. I'm not going to actually use her in battle, only caught her so I could guarantee I'd have someone capable of using Fly
Kinda cheated with Honey since my first encounter in that area was a male combee but I didn't feel like putting up with that shit again so I rerolled until I got a female one.

A second Flamethrower takes out Muk, and I'm really happy for that.

I send newcomer Saoirse in, and Crobat Double Teams. Another Double Team is followed by an Ice Beam Miss.
A third Double Team ends up meaningless, as Ice Beam KOs(dunno if the NeverMeltIce was necessary, but it was nice to buff up the damage).

Venomoth throws out Toxic as Saoirse Rain Dances. Psychic doesn't do too much damage, and Surf utterly destroys the poor moth.

Another Quick Attack is followed by Reflect.
Jade, who's wearing a Black Belt, comes in on the sleeping Hitmontop and Swords Dances twice.
Hitmontop wakes up and Quick Attacks, but does almost no damage as the third Swords Dance is done.
A final Quick Attack is made just before Wing Attack ends poor Hitmontop.

This is why Jade danced thrice, wore a black belt, and kept Rock Smash. Onix falls to a single Rock Smash, and the only potential block to Jade's clean sweep is gone.

Intended Moveset change before Karen: Was gonna put Light Screen on Dr. Eggman instead of Reflect. Forgot to do it though!

Leggy Lamb(now carrying a Magnet) is sent in, and my good luck continues! Murkrow Plucks Leggy and gets static'd for her troubles.
Sucker Punch fails, as Leggy sets up a Light Screen, and a Thunderbolt takes out the crow.
>Houndoom
Houndoom uses Nasty Plot as it gets hit by Thunderbolt(activating the Sitrus Berry)
Flamethrower does scary damage(good thing I have the Screen up) but Thunderbolt takes Houndoom out.
>Gengar
Dr Eggman comes in on a Focus Blast Miss.
The next Focus Blast hits, but Eggman Yawns at Gengar's efforts.
Another Focus Blast hits home, as Eggman uses Extrasensory as Gengar becomes sleepy.
I'm in a precarious spot here- if Gengar wakes up, it could potentially score a Focus Blast crit, or worse(the whole reason I slept it to begin with), use a Destiny Bond. I'm not that unlucky though, and another Extrasensory ends the Gengar.
>Vileplume
Orlando comes in... on a Petal Dance.
He proceeds to take Vileplume out with a Flamethrower Crit(overkill!)

Aerial Ace knocks Basil down to worryingly low health, and Ice Beam fails to kills(leaving Aerodactyl deeply in the red) so I use the almost certain Full Restore to get Leggy in.
Aerodactyl the manages to be aggravating by scoring a Rock Slide Flinch, but the second Rock Slide does no such thing, and Leggy finishes off the league with a Thunderbolt.

Don't mess with Basil Stag Hare.

Sunkern is unironically awesome. IMO the single best buff you could give it, regardless of how little sense it could make, was a special Grass-type version of Counter/Revenge/Vital Throw and Analytic. It would at least have a good in game niche for that alone.

The AI in gen 1 cheats.
Your enemy chooses its move right as it uses it instead of at the top of the round.
That's how you get shit like the enemy using potions mid-turn and self-destructs when the enemy is going to die on the next turn anyway.

How do you deal with grinding to level up low level pokemon when your good ones die?
t. just lost my 2nd run against Claire after my Ampharos died (meaning I had no good options against her Gyarados and Kingdra), all my pokemon were lower than hers and I dien't want to spend hours grinding level 20 enemies

Honestly, in a lot of the older gens I used the Day Care, it's probably the best way to grind between levels 20-40 and you can just pop on a movie or a youtube video and chill while you do it. Granted, you won't get any EVs from that, but honestly I'd rather take easier leveling over EVs, besides it's not hard to train up EVs if you really feel like you need them

Guess I’ll keep training him again. In dire need of an Electric type anyways, and he has the nature for it (Brave) with Intimidate.

Man that was a really risky strat but it paid off.

I'm still gunning through Blue with the harsh dupes clause. Silph Co is done and pretty much all the pre-Surf stuff was as well. This meant I wasn't too underlevelled for both Koga and Sabrina, and I annihilated both of them. It's so weird in Kanto with how the sequence is barely there to break. I had 4 badges for an extremely long time, then I get 2 in the space of half an hour and will probably do the same with the last two.

Gen 1-4 pretty much, Gen 5 the day care is either absent in the main story (BW2) or it comes at such a late point that you'd be better off just defeating trainers/Audinos (BW), and from Gen 6 on there are much better ways of grinding
