My main issue with both the Gerudo Desert and Galar Badlands is they're boring and generic, the vast majority of the former is just dunes of sand while the latter is just dust storms, dry grass and dead trees.
The best areas of BotW's desert area the canyon leading up to the Yiga Clan Hideout, the various ancient ruins that are decently sized (e.g. the Seven Goddess Statues, the Ruins for the Ice Cube Quest), the giant skeleton where the Great Fairy is located, Gerudo Town and the Oasis Outpost. I think if the desert had a floodplain running through it that would add more character and direction to the region, when you look at the other regions in Hyrule; Hebra, Death Mountain, Necluda, Zora River, Faron & Hyrule Field they all tend to trade big open areas for more interesting and varied terrain, something that the Gerudo Desert in general lacks, a floodplain and by extension inland sea river perhaps taking melted snow from the Gerudo Highlands out to the ocean in the South would provide a good feature to help give the desert a key feature. Also just making the topography more chopped up would help it could be interesting if the mountains in the region form a valley (or more aptly a canyon) that's so massive the desert formed within it and has a vaguely crater-like shape.
As for the SwSh Badlands excluding the graphical issues with its design and just the inconsistent aesthetic of SwSh in general the region looks dull, it's the most cookie-cutter and low effort variant of badlands, there is no character to the location in the wild area, nothing giving it defining geography. There is clearly not much care put into the Wild Areas at least in comparison to the cities which have more well-defined character.
