I think most of the 600 pokemon included in the game will randomly spawn in the Wild Area without a single thought being given about whether it's a coherent place to find them or not.

By Gen 9, they should have multiple Wild Areas with different biomes. That way, they can at least make a bit more sense as certain Pokemon could go to the jungle Wild Area, others to the mountain Wild Area, etc. This can't really be done with routes as it would feel even worse to cram a larger variety of Pokemon in a smaller and more limited space.

I guess making a neat beach to explore was too much work but it's not on the Wild Area full map we got. I mean I don't think Gamefreak gave much thought to placement in the wild area but the ocean is still right there. I'm mad we can't explore it.

There are NPCs in the Wild Area. There are trainers merchants and other players. The footage is just segmented like it’s been since the beginning. They are purposefully hiding stuff and carefully picking which footage they show and what it contains.
